Alex Gambal Meursault 2012

In the center of the Côte de Beaune, Meursault’s famous vineyards produce wines that are characterized by their volume and generosity underpinned by their unique mineral character. Our Meursault comes from two parcels of “lieu dits”; Le Pre de Manche and Les Casse-Tetes.

Vineyards:
Grapes: 100% Chardonnay
Average age of vines: 40 years
Area: 0.42 ha
Yield: 23 hl/ha
Exposure: South
Soil: calcareous brown marls and limestone.

Vinification/Barrel Ageing: The grapes were hand picked in small cases on September 22 were put directly in our pneumatic press (whole clusters). After settling of the large sediments (debourbage) in a stainless steel tank for 24 hours at 59 °F the must was put in 33% new French oak barrels by gravity. The grape’s natural yeasts were used for fermentation, 100% malolactic fermentation (natural) with a small amount of battonage. The wine matured 12 months in barrel 5 months in stainless steel tanks before bottling.

Bottling: There was light filtration without fining before bottling by gravity on February 11, 2014. Number of bottles produced: 1,275

Tasting Notes: The wine is clear and brilliant with a golden yellow hue and tints of green. The nose is discreet with hints of honeysuckle, flint and a bit of crème brule. With air the wine changes and citrus, hazelnut and white flowers appear. In the mouth the wine shows a fine balance, freshness with a tight linear direction. The 2012 vintage is one that is quite open but will develop a complexity over time.

Ageing potential: 2014 - 2018
