Winery Alex Gambal
Vosne-Romanée lies in the heart of the greatest stretch of vineyards in the world for producing Pinot Noir. Our grapes come from two vineyards, ‘’Vigneaux’’ and ’’Au-Dessus de la Riviere’’ (above the river/creek).
Vineyards:
Grape variety: 100% Pinot Noir
Age of the vines: 35-40 years
Area: 0.361 ha
Yield: 32 hl/ha
Exposure: East/South East
Soil: Mixture of brown marls and limestone
Vinification/Barrel Ageing:
The grapes were hand picked in small cases on September 22 and 24, passed on a sorting table, were 100% destemmed and fermented in a stainless steel tank. Fermentation lasted 21 days with periodic pumping over and punch downs. We separated the free juice from the solids, pressed the solids in our pneumatic press and then reassembled the two. We put the wine in barrel (33% new French oak) by gravity for 15 months followed by 3 months in stainless steel tanks.
Bottling: There was light filtration before bottling by gravity on April 8, 2014. Number of bottles produced: 1766
Tasting Notes: The wine has a red garnet hue with notes of cinnamon, strawberry and violets on the nose. On the palate the wine has great volume, dense but smooth tannins and a marvelous length. It will be closed in its youth but will flourish with age; patience is necessary.
Ageing Potential: 2015- 2021.
