Winery Alex Gambal

Throughout Gevrey-Chambertin and its 9 Grand Cru vineyards and multiple 1er Cru and Village vineyards, Gevrey produces wines that are powerful and full bodied with rich complex aromas and great elegance. Gevrey-Chambertin’s wines need time to express the land’s richness and its power.

Vineyards:

Grape variety: 100% Pinot Noir

Average age of vines: 45 years

Area: 0.27 ha

Yield: 26 hl/ha

Exposure: South-East

Soils: Mixture of brown marls and limestone

Vinification/Barrel Ageing: The grapes were hand picked in small cases on September 30, passed on a sorting table, were 100% destemmed and fermented in a small wood tank. Fermentation lasted 16 days with periodic pumping over and punch downs. We separated the free juice from the solids, pressed the solids in our pneumatic press and then reassembled the two. We put the wine in barrel (50% new French oak) by gravity for 15 months followed by 3 months in stainless steel tanks

Bottling: There was light filtration before bottling by gravity on April 7, 2014. Number of bottles produced: 878

Tasting Notes:  The wine has a dark ruby, black cherry robe with a nose dense with aromas of small red fruits and spices. The tannins are fine grained, complex that paradoxically give the wine a big yet delicate mouth feel. The wine has great ageing potential but will give enjoyment if decanted 3-4 hours before serving when young.

Ageing potential: 2016-2022

Serve between: 59 - 61 ° F
