Winery Alex Gambal

Throughout Gevery-Chambertin and its 9 Grand Cru vineyards Charmes-Chambertin shows a flamboyance not often seen. The vineyard produces wines that are powerful and full bodied with rich complex aromas with great elegance. Charmes-Chambertin can also be called Mazoyeres-Chambertin, which is the part that lies closest to Morey St. Denis, is where these grapes came from.

Vineyards:
Grape variety: 100% Pinot Noir
Age of vines: 35-40 years
Area: 0.1682 ha
Yield: 27 hl/ha
Exposure: East/South East
Soils: Mixture of brown and lighter marls with limestone

Vinification/Barrel Ageing: The grapes were hand picked in small cases on September 25, passed on a sorting table, were 100% destemmed, and fermented in a small wood tank especially made for this small lot. Fermentation lasted 19 days with periodic pumping over and punch downs. We seperated the free juice from the solids, pressed the solids in our pneumatic press and then reassembled the two. We put the wine in barrel (50 % new French oak ) by gravity for 15 months followed by 3 months in stainless steel tank

Bottling: There was a light filtration before bottling by gravity on April 8, 2014. Number of bottles produced: 585.

Tasting Notes: The wine has a dark ruby black cherry hue and a dense nose of elegant aromas of violets, vanilla and ripe crunch red fruit. The length of the wine is quite long and complex but round, harmonious; a real delight.

Ageing potential: 2014-2020

Serve between: 59 - 61 ° F.
