Alex Gambal Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2012

Located  near the border of the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. Corton’s massif offers two Grand Crus : red and a small amount of white facing  mostly East and the white Corton-Charlemagne from the South to West. Our Charlemagne comes from parcels located in ‘’En-Charlemagne’’ to the West and ‘’Le Charlemagne’’ to the South.

Vineyards:
Grape Variety: 100% Chardonnay
Age of the vines: 40 years
Area: .16 ha
Yield: 47 hl/ha

Vinification/Barrel Ageing:
The grapes were hands picked in small cases on September 27 were put directly in our pneumatic press (whole clusters). After settling of the large sediments (debourbage) in a stainless steel tank for 24 hours at 59 °F the must was put in 66% new French oak barrels by gravity. The grape’s natural yeasts were used for fermentation, 100% malolactic fermentation (natural) with a small amount of battonage. The wine matured 15 months in barrel 3 months in stainless steel tanks before bottling.

Bottling: There was light filtration without fining before bottling by gravity on April 9, 2014. Number of bottles produced: 558.

Tasting Notes: The color has a golden color with hints of green. The wine will charm you with its delicate nose of citrus, pineapple, line juniper and a hint of cinnamon. The mouth is full and rich but has a reserved power that keeps its concentration on check. It is a true marriage of Charlemagne’s richness from the south and its minerality and reserve from the west.
